SUNY Cobleskill’s Morgan O’Sullivan, riding the College-owned Good Gold Invested, beat out 31 competitors over the weekend to win the Region 6 Circuit Championship in Horsemanship at the American Quarter Horse Association Region 6 Quarter Horse Show in Springfield, Massachusetts. The show featured more than 400 horses from around the Northeast. It was O’Sullivan’s first quarter horse show.
O’Sullivan trained six days a week to prepare for the show with Gretchen Mathes, former AQHA Professional Horsewoman of the Year and one of the world’s top equestrian judges, and Gene Spagnola, Head Trainer at the world-renowned Powder Brook Farm and an AQHA Professional Horseman. Spagnola has trained numerous world champions as well as several intercollegiate national champions.
Earlier this year, O’Sullivan was named the Western Equestrian Team’s Most Valuable Performer for the 2015-16 season. During the season, she was the IHSA Region 3 Zone 2 Reserve Point Rider, the second leading point scorer in regional competition, and led all team members in scoring at regional competitive events. She is a sophomore at SUNY Cobleskill and captain of the College’s Western Equestrian Team.
